News & Events: Surgery Center.. Surgery Center at Mt. Zion Offering New Procedures ATLANTA (April 7, 2008) – The Surgery Center at Mt. Zion, providing outpatient surgery services and pain management care in Atlanta since 1997, today announced the addition of two new treatments. Starting immediately, the Surgery Center will add endoscopic thyroid surgery and phonomicrosurgery to their list of surgical specialties. The Surgery Center at Mt. Zion is one of the few places in Atlanta offering endoscopic thyroid surgery. The endoscopic thyroid treatment, performed by Dr. Srinivasa Gorjala at the Surgery Center, is a minimally invasive procedure and is typically performed as a therapeutic treatment of benign and cancerous thyroid conditions. It is a video-assisted procedure, giving the doctor a magnified view of the thyroid. “Adding this procedure to our list of specialties at the Surgery Center is a benefit to our patients,” says Gorjala. “The procedure itself is less invasive, which makes patients more comfortable, and, now, patients can also take advantage of the convenience of having the procedure done at our outpatient center.” The second new treatment, phonomicrosurgery, is a diagnostic and surgical procedure for treating voice related disorders. These may include malignant or benign tumors such as nodules, polyps, and cysts. This surgical procedure allows doctors to examine and treat disorders of the vocal cords with highly specialized techniques that improve outcome, reduce scarring, and lead to faster recovery. Dr. Michael Neuenschwander is the credentialed physician performing these procedures at the Center.
